Tamiflu (Oseltamivir)

Tamiflu (Oseltamivir)

Tamiflu is an amazingly effective drug, in terms of profit generation for the drug companies at least. Whether it’s of any significant use in containing the H1N1 swine flu pandemic is a matter of opinion.

Those who are making a pile of cash are convinced of the health benefits and, in the main, big media is happy to endorse the sales pitch. But Dr Tom Jefferson, of the Cochrane Collaboration in Rome, has a different view.

Jefferson is, “appalled that such drugs could be widely used and relied on as the solution to a flu pandemic at the expense of things that really work – like washing your hands dozens of times a day.”

…there is a very real possibility of resistance developing to the drugs if they are handed out like Smarties.

In May the Guardian published, “The Trouble With Tamiflu”, a brief investigation into the two companies making millions out of the swine flu crisis. This is worth reading as a starting point to educating yourself about the various drugs and potions the government and its business allies are pushing.

With the new dial-a-drug National Pandemic Flu Service operational and worried members of the public openly admitting to grabbing anti-viral drugs either as a precaution or, worse, with the intention of using them in a preventative capacity it’s important to know there is no magic bullet out there.

However, there are many natural measures you can take to promote your immune system and fight off flu in the way nature intended, without any risk of side effects or longer term harm.

I’m not a medical professional and I’m not going to tell you how to protect yourself or your family during this crisis – unlike some of the unbelievably cynical marketing and affiliate sites that have sprung up to try and reap profits from illness and our fears.

But I am going to recommend you don’t take everything the government, drug companies and media tell you at face value. Go and find out the facts for yourself, there’s enough information online to help you decide if you want to pop pills or instead do the harder things like improve your diet, get some exercise and compliment healthy living with natural supplements.

I have been recommended a series of products called Wellmune. I won’t give a link, find it yourself and have a read.
